Gifting an Amateur

As some of you may know, I'm a licensed amateur radio operator or "Ham." Hams serve an important function in our communities here in the USA and the rest of the globe. How much does the modern man rely on the lights, the telephone, cell phones and the internet? Imagine your inability to watch Monday night football or, microwave that TV dinner. Now imagine that inability along with no cell phones or land line telephones available lasting for an extended period of time say more than a few days. The electrical grid in the USA is probably one of the most reliable in the world but, in many ways it is still vulnerable to natural disaster, terrorism and infrastructural decay.  A lot of Amateur Radio buffs have the ability to carry on without electricity fed from the grid. Now you're probably wondering what does that have to do with you? Your family probably will not know if you're alive in the situation above. The reality is, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, terrorist attacks and civil unrest happen. You may or may not want to communicate outside your street in one of these cases but, people you care about and who care about you will want to know if you're OK. Turn that around now. If someone you care about is in an emergent situation you'll want to know what their status is. Now I'm not claiming that Hams can fix any of the above but, the prepared ones can help you communicate with your loved ones in an emergency. My thoughts? Please support Amateur Radio in your community. Most Amateur Radio people volunteer in many ways to help out in community events and emergencies. The antennas on their roof may be unsightly to you but that same antenna and the person that owns it can help you communicate with your families in one of the cases mentioned above. You can also get your own license and become part of the solution and not the problem.

More info on Amateur Radio can be found here: American Radio Relay League

With Christmas swiftly on the way, I decided to present some gifts for the "Ham" in your life. Each product is a representative example of what is available. Many more colors, styles and texts are available in the store. Customize anything you see to your heart's content! Thanks for looking!
